Come Join Us as we explore the medicine & the magic of the African Diaspora on the black beaches ofCahuita at the beautiful Goddess Garden Retreat Center www.thegoddessgarden.com in Cahuita Costa Rica. Cahuita is a small village tucked away on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, near the border with Panama. It’s a gateway to Cahuita National Park, which has coral reefs and the white-sand beach of Playa Blanca. The park’s rain forest shelters toucans, monkeys and turtles. The black-sand beach of Playa Negra, is known for its strong waves and is situated north of the growing little city of Puerto Veijo.
What is Afro-Botany: The interdisciplinary study and implementation of traditional botanical strategies used by Africans and their descendants throughout the African Diaspora. Afro-botany includes culture, food, ethnomedicine, history, environmental science, spirituality, trauma recovery, educational & financial reparations and health policy decolonization. The Afro Botany Immersion Conference provides networking opportunities, that would otherwise not be accessible.
Our Mission: To provide a safe, academic yet traditional community space to explore, experience and document the botanical knowledge of the African Diaspora, and to create relationships which empower us to contribute to the survival of Afro-botany and Traditional African Medicine.
The Afro Botany Immersion Conference provides a exemplary opportunity for a wide spectrum of lay people, herbalist, doctors, scholars, researchers & policy makers to become culturally aware of the sensitive health practices and traditions that are still alive throughout the Diaspora.
The Afro Botany Immersion Conference was founded by Visionary, Herbalist & Holistic Nutritionist, Sobande Greer. She has worked tirelessly with past co-founder Rachel Thomas of Hidden Gardens Ethonobotanical Sanctuary to insure the survival of plants located inside the Bush Medicine Circle in Puerto Veijo, Costa Rica https://hiddengarden.co/
Hidden Garden also offers a free virtual library, with a priority in documenting the wellness traditions of Africa and the African Diaspora, and of the Americas. To find more information on the topic of Afro Botany, use the search term AFR to see what we have available.
Today, the conference is co created by a small team of dedicated women and men who understand & honor the legacy of the African Diaspora. On behalf of the Afro Botany Immersion Conference we welcome you!
